Administrative Process Status for Nonimmigrant Visa Applicants

This only applies to applicants who were advised at the time of interview that additional administrative processing would be required for completion of their visa application. 

At the time of your interview, you received a personal secure application reference code, similar to this example:  C 09 086 053 1. 

DO NOT MAKE TRAVEL PLANS until the administrative processing for your case has been completed; we cannot guarantee how long the administrative processing for your case will take.

Please check the listing below for your reference code and take whatever action is requested.  The list is updated every regular business day and reflects the most current information we have about your case.  Because of workload and other factors, we cannot answer phone calls about your case status.  All calls about cases undergoing administrative processing will be referred back to this website.

• If your reference code is not listed, the administrative processing has not yet been completed on your application.

— Administrative processing with reference codes beginning with the letter C can take approximately 2–4 weeks from the date of application to complete.

— Administrative processing with reference codes beginning with the letter D or M, may take between several weeks and several months from the date of application to complete.

• When your reference code is listed, you must follow the instructions to complete visa processing by the date noted below.  If you do not follow the instructions within this timeframe, we will have to restart the administrative process.
