Ambassador Thomas C. Foley made the keynote speech and presented awards at the annual Civic Link ceremony to recognize projects which had been carried out by secondary school students.  Civic Link is a project of Cooperation Ireland in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy and is partially funded by the U.S. Department of State.  The program arranges for secondary schools in Republic of Ireland to partner with schools in Northern Ireland and develop community projects.

The students develop a plan for community improvement and then approach government officials and community leaders with their plans.  The projects covered a broad variety of topics including integrated education, health, and even traffic safety.
