Ambassador Foley visited the Rockgrange Hydropower Station during his visit to Sligo on May 17. Ambassador Foley was given a short briefing on the hydropower station followed by a walking tour of the facility.
The station, built in the late 1980s, is a combination of three linked turbines. The uppermost turbine diverts water from a series of waterfalls leading from the Ballisodare River to its estuary in Ballisodare village. The scheme ensures that minimum water flow is maintained through the original stream, allowing fish to climb the waterfalls. The Ballisodare River is famous for salmon and trout and is a significant source of tourism for the area.
