New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Visits Knock Airport

On February 4, Knock Airport in western Ireland welcomed New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for an event to thank him for supporting the planned start of Liverpool-Knock-New York air service by UK carrier FlyGlobespan this May.

After first visiting the airport this past August, Mayor Bloomberg’s staff liaised with the U.S. Department of Transportation on the approval process for the New York flights.

This new trans-Atlantic air service has the potential to boost U.S. tourism, commerce, and investment in Ireland’s scenic northwest, while raising the number of yearly Irish visitors to New York (roughly 266,000 in 2006).
