U.S.-EU Cooperation
Every six months the Presidency of the Council of
the European Union rotates between the Member States.
Ireland held the Presidency of the EU for the sixth
time from January 1 to June 30, 2004.
U.S.-EU Summit
President Bush traveled to Ireland to participate
in the U.S.-EU summit on June 26, 2004.

the State Department May 6. The occasion was
the 50th anniversary of the first European
Commission presence in Washington and the

President Bush Welcomes 10 New Countries to the European Union:
May 3, 2004
President Bush welcomed the addition of 10
new countries into the European Union, saying
the organization's enlargement into countries
with established democracies "helps create a
Europe whole, free, and at peace." Bush said
the United States also welcomes the prospect
of further enlargement to "qualified countries,
including Romania and Bulgaria," and supports
Turkey's EU aspirations.......
