PASSPORTS

Imminent Departure

If you need a new passport for travel within the next two weeks, your application will require a personal appearance.

After reading the information below, click here to schedule an appointment to apply for an emergency passport.  If can't schedule an appointment that meets your travel needs, e-mail your request for an appointment by clicking here.  All requests for emergency appointments will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Please bring the following to the Embassy:

• Your old passport. (See Lost passport if your passport was lost or stolen.)

• Proof of international travel within the next two weeks.

• Two (2) identical, recent color photographs taken full face, with a white background, measuring 5 cm by 5 cm (2 in x 2 in). Please ask the photographer for photos for a U.S. passport, otherwise you may be given the wrong format. Pictures made in Irish photo booths are not acceptable. There are photographers located close to the Embassy.

 • Your social security number.

• Either a DS-82 passport application (if you have a full validity, 10 year passport issued within the past 15 years that is not mutilated in any way), or a DS-11 passport application (all others). If your, or your children’s previous passport(s) were issued for a 5-year validity period, use the DS-11. Please type or print legibly in black ink when completing all sections of this application. Please print out and submit only one-sided pages of the application. Note that the online version of the application form includes instructions on the backside written for use in the U.S., which do not apply to your application in Ireland.

• A credit card or cash (dollars or euro) to pay the passport fee.

If eligible, you will be issued a limited validity passport for your imminent travel. You will be required to replace this passport by mail when you complete your travel. You may not be issued another emergency passport until this passport is replaced with a full validity passport.  We therefore encourage you to replace your emergency passport immediately upon your return.

Security at the Embassy

Please do not bring any electronic devices, such as laptop computers, Blackberries, iPods, or large bags, such as backpacks, suitcases or packages to the Consular Section as there are no storage facilities on Embassy grounds. Security guards may hold small tourist cameras and cell phones until your departure, but there is no storage available for any other large items or electronic devices — please do not bring them at the time of your appointment.
