Renew your Passport by Mail
IF YOUR MOST RECENT PASSPORT WAS ISSUED MORE THAN 15 YEARS AGO, YOU MUST APPLY IN PERSON
If you reside in the Republic of Ireland, you may renew your passport by mail, provided that you meet all of the following conditions:
- You can submit your most recent U.S. passport;
- You are over 18 years old;
- You were at least 16 years of age when your most recent U.S. passport was issued;
- You have had a U.S. passport issued in your name within the past 15 years.
If you meet all of these requirements, complete either version of Form DS-0082 in full:

This form should be filled in online and printed on white A4 or letter-size paper, with each page on a separate sheet of paper.

This form should be downloaded and printed on white A4 or letter-size paper, with each page on a separate sheet of paper. Complete in Block Letters.
(Please ignore pages one and two of the instructions pages of this form, as they do not apply when applying for your passport outside the United States. Instead, please follow the instructions on this page.)
SIGN and mail the application form to this office together with all of the following:
- Two identical color photographs;
- Most recent U.S. Passport;
- Passport Fee of $75.00 (the fee must be paid by U.S. Dollar Draft made payable to "U.S. Embassy");
- Self-addressed, registered envelope.
Please Note: All passport applicants must provide their correct social security numbers in box number 5 of the passport application form, or otherwise indicate that you have no social security number. Applicants who fail to provide a valid social security number may be subject to a US$500 penalty enforced by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
(If your name has changed, please submit a civil marriage certificate, court order or deed poll).
Please mail all your documents to: Passport and Citizenship Unit, American Embassy, 42 Elgin Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.
If all documentation is complete and in order, we will process your passport application and return it to you by mail. Please allow four weeks for receipt of your new passport.
