Passport Renewals by Mail

You can renew your passport through the mail if you are an adult in possession of a 10-year validity passport issued within the last 15 years.  If you do not meet the following requirements to renew your passport my mail, please return to the main passport page.  You will need to apply in person. 

If you meet the above requirements to renew your passport by mail, you must submit all of the following:

  1. Completed, signed and dated form DS-82;
  2. Current or expiring passport (damaged or mutilated passports cannot be accepted);
  3. Two recent U.S. passport size photographs;
  4. The $75 passport fee using a US dollar bank draft payable to the US Embassy.
  5. Include a stamped self-addressed envelope, size 6in x 9 1/2in approx., for the return of your new and old passport.  Please affix to the envelope a €5.50 regular postage stamp or a combination of stamps to the value of €5.50.  We will return your passports and documentation to you by Express Post mail.  Processing should take two to three weeks.

Tips to Expedite Your Passport Application

Forms

For faster service, we recommend you complete all passport application forms online and print them out for your signature. When printing out the form, please note that only one-sided pages of the application form are accepted.
 
You may also submit a typewritten or printed form.  Please print legibly using black ink. 

Note that the online version of the application form includes instructions on the back side written for use in the U.S. only. These instructions do NOT apply to your application in Ireland. Please follow specific instructions provided on this webpage.

Passport Photographs

U.S. passport photos are significantly different from other types of passport photos. Irish photo booth photographs are NOT acceptable for U.S. passport issuance. We recommend you obtain photos per the instructions. Computer scanned images may not be accepted.  All photos must have a white background.
